Visit the WNDR Museum in Chicago

I’ve been meaning to visit the WNDR Museum in Chicago for a while now, but I was worried it was simply an “Instagram” trap.

Well, I was very wrong – it was so much more than that.

The WNDR Museum is a 10,000-square-foot immersive art and technology experience.

The experience takes about an hour to go through and is filled with brilliant interactive exhibits. It even includes the only Yayoi Kusama infinity mirror room in the Midwest. And for the record – Yayoi Kusama is the real deal when it comes to art.

These exhibits sparked a lot of childlike joy I haven’t felt in a long time. My guest felt the same way. Although, one exhibit actually moved me to tears.

I wasn’t able to capture a photo, as it was a very dark room. But in one exhibit you walk in and see a number up above. That number represents all of the people in the world currently streaming the beloved Leonard Cohen song “Hallelujah”. You are surrounded by the sound of the song being hummed by numerous voices. As the amount of people listening to the song increases or decreases, the amount of humming of the song adjusts in real-time. You are quite literally sharing a common experience with hundreds of people across the world at the same time.

It was powerful.
