Best Day Trip from Bergen: Nærøyfjorden, Flåm, and Stegastein Guided Bus Tour
My mom and I are notorious for slow travel. We spent six nights in the "Gateway to the Fjords", also known as Bergen. That said, we knew we wanted to at least spend one day deep in the fjords. We booked this day trip from Bergen and it was 100% worth the money. Please note this was not a sponsored experience. I genuinely had an amazing time, and I wanted to share it here on my blog.
The tour itself was incredibly well-organized and a perfect choice for our mother-daughter trip. The 20ish-person bus was spacious and comfortable, making the long day of travel enjoyable and stress-free. I appreciated that it wasn’t a mega bus, so our group was a reasonable size, and it felt more intimate. It was nice to sit back and relax while soaking in the stunning countryside views through the large windows. While I generally don’t like bus tours, the size of this tour was small enough to feel like a gathering of friends rather than tourists.
We were also very fortunate to have unusually wonderful weather for the day—bright blue skies and sunshine, which made the scenery even more breathtaking. In a country with as much rain as Norway, it was truly a treat.
The highlight of the tour, without a doubt, was the fjord cruise. Gliding through the narrow, serene waters of Nærøyfjord surrounded by towering cliffs and cascading waterfalls felt like something out of a dream. It’s easy to see why this area is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Our guide, Stieg, was so passionate about sharing his home. He added a few extra stops to the itinerary that turned out to be some of my favorite parts. While the price tag is a bit high, the experience is 100% worth it. If you take only one guided tour during your time in Norway, this is it.
